"Elvis" takes to the road

Andy Pashley is spending his birthday in the company of a plywood Cadillac—all in the name of a good cause, pushing the self-made motor around the borough to raise money for Homestart Rotherham, Rotherham Lions Welfare Fund and Rotherham Samaritans.

Andy and his friends will be starting the feat, entitled the “Pash Push,” on Sunday at 2.30pm at Bramley Brook, stopping by the Cavalier in Ravenfield at 3pm, then onto the Ravenfield Arms for 4pm, finally finishing at the Woodman in Woodlaithes at 5pm.

He said: “Each year, I like to do something different for my birthday, so, for my 45th, a friend of mine mentioned the Pink Cadillac which was made at the Thornton and Wood joiners’ workshop in Bramley for a Wickersley Comprehensive School musical production.

“This gave me an idea. Most of my friends have a musical talent, so, why not enjoy performing with friends around our local area and raise a few quid on the way.

“In the past we have had music nights, performed Elvis on a barge and even performed various roles in panto.

“This will be fun.”

The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Rose McNeely, said: “What a fantastic sentiment from Andy, to spend his birthday generously raising money for others and in such a fun way too.

“His mini-Cadillac looks very nice and, fortunately, not too heavy either.

“I'd like to thank Andy for his fund-raising efforts.

“He has made both the council and the town proud with his selflessness.”

If you would like to support Andy, you can meet him along the stops on the way, or catch him on his travels.
