Early hours evacuation for resident as fire crews battle Goldthorpe house fire

RESIDENTS had to be evacuated from their homes in the early hours of this morning after five fire crews were called out to tackle a house fire.

Firefighters from Dearne, Adwick, Edlington, Doncaster and Parkway stations were dispatched to Kelly Street in Goldthorpe at 4am. Police officers from Barnsley were also called to the scene to assist. 

A spokeswoman from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the fire was in the roof area of the property.

She added: "Adjacent properties were evacuated as a precaution and there were no reports of any injuries.

"The cause of the fire has been logged as accidental and crews were on scene for around three hours."

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the scene at 4.07am, adding that they were working closely with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue as further enquiries into the incident continue.
