Duo hope to have last laugh with new comedy nights

A PARTNERSHIP born out of a cricket club’s fundraising efforts is breaking into South Yorkshire’s comedy scene with a series of gigs.

Rotherham-based Richard Hirst’s fundraising comedy nights at Aston Hall Cricket Club were dying a death until High Green comedian Joe Bromehead took to the stage.

His ten minute set had the crowd at Aston Hall Cricket Club in fits of laughter and gave the lads an idea.

Initially, Joe agreed to compere the nights at Aston, but now the duo have secured 3 nights at the170 capacity Holiday Inn in Barnsley.

And they have further nights in the pipeline at this and other venues.

They aim to to bring the best in comedy talent currently available on the circuit to the venue.

Their Love Comedy nights will be held at the Holiday Inn’s Scarletts room on the last Fridays in September, October and November.

And regular nights are still planned at Aston Hall Cricket Club.

Richard, who works for the NHS in Barnsley, will promote the nights with Joe acting as resident MC.

Joe, who is a fireman during the day, has been a comedian for nearly two years and has recently appeared at the Comedy Store on the same bill as Sarah Millican.

With this knowledge of the current comedy circuit he’s secured the services of acts such as Dan Nightingale, who’s recently supported Michael McIntyre; Joe Lycett, who won a prestigious Newcomer of the Year award this year and Ray Peacock, who has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News.
