The new furnace will produce the same amount of glass — up to 200 tonnes a day — as the previous one, but it will be much more efficient and use less energy.

The Greasbrough Road firm has also installed state-of-the-art quality inspection systems and computer aided design technology.

The Duke of Gloucester will visit the plant on September 6 and marketing manager Charlotte Taylor said: ““He’s not coming specifically to see the new equipment, but with all the recent investment, the timing couldn’t be better.”

Around eight firms have been involved in rebuilding the furnace, including Rotherham-based Batts Engineering, which fabricated and installed the structural steelwork and Sheffield-based Tecoglas, which designed it.

Beatson Clark currently supplies bottles for numerous customers, including pharmaceutical brands Gaviscon and Covonia.
