Downpour causes traffic chaos

HEAVY rain and flash flooding has led to several roads being closed and widespread disruption across Rotherham.

The Canklow roundabout was shut an hour ago after being flooded and buses are being diverted from St Ann’s Road at St Ann’s was closed due a raised manhole cover caused by hours of torrential rain.

Other roads closed or affected include:

  • Glasshouse Road, Kilnhurst.
  • Nursery Lane, Sprotbrough.
  • Station Road and Pastures Road, Conisbrough.
  • Melton Mill Lane and Hollow Gate Lane, Denaby.
  • A630 Centenary Way Rotherham, both ways at A631 Bawtry Road
  • A630 South Yorkshire to A630 Centenary Way in Rotherham—closed and queueing traffic in both directions at Canklow Roundabout, because of flooding.
  • A6123 Great Eastern Way Parkgate, Rotherham, both ways between A633 Rotherham Road and Waddington Way
  • A6123 South Yorkshire - A6123 Great Eastern Way in Parkgate, Rotherham closed and slow traffic in both directions between the A633 Rotherham Road junction and the Waddington Way junction, because of flooding.
  • A630 Fitzwilliam Road Rotherham, westbound at A633 St Ann's Road
  •  A630 South Yorkshire.

Bus companies are diverting several services, including the Powells 87 which is not serving Brinsworth and the First X78, which is running with delays due to traffic and standing water.
