Dog attack fatality inquest opened

AN INQUEST into the death of a 43-year-grandmother who died in West Melton following a dog attack has been opened and adjourned.

Joanne Robinson died at the scene of the incident in Masefield Road on Friday, July 15 after being attacked by an American bully XL, a legal breed of dog.

A 42-year-old man suffered potentially life-changing injuries in the same incident.

Police said they had been called at 10.15pm “by a member of the public stating a dog had attacked himself and a woman”.

A spokesperson said: “The woman had been fatally bitten and despite the best efforts of emergency crews was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The dog, plus another dog at the property, were secured by specially-trained officers. Neither dog was of a banned breed.”

The inquest was opened at Doncaster Coroner’s Court on Monday and adjourned until January 10, 2023.
