Didcot workers’ rescue efforts to finish

RESCUE workers searching for three missing men trapped in the rubble of the collapsed Didcot Power Station will finish working at the site on Sunday.

Ken Cresswell (57), from Clifton, and John Shaw (61), from Kimberworth, along with Christopher Huxtable, from Swansea, Wales, have been missing since the plant collapsed on February 23.

Specialist contractors Coleman and Company said it was “hugely disappointing” that it had to cease work without finding their colleagues.

Demolition firm Brown and Mason will now clear the collapsed section of the boiler house and use explosions to demolish the rest of the building — something which the men’s families have vowed to fight against.

Site owner RWE Npower said contractors would be using a technique which will see the structure fall away from the existing pile of debris.

But Rotherham MP Sarah Champion questioned how the company could be certain the rest of the plant would not fall on the area where the three men are believed to be trapped.
