Dentist to close after recruiting troubles

AN INTERNATIONAL dental care chain has blamed recruitment problems for closing the doors on one of its local practices for good next month after more than a decade in the Dearne Valley.

Europe’s largest dental care provider, {my}dentist, acquired the dental practice on St Andrew’s Square in Bolton-on-Dearne in 2009 and offered private and NHS services.

In a letter to patients seen by the Weekender, the practice team said it was “regrettably” closing on Friday, June 30 and would be unable to provide NHS dental services ahead of the closure date “due to a lack of NHS clinicians”.

An NHS dental emergency triage service will be offered until the practice closes.

“The decision to close has not been taken lightly,” the letter continues.

“Unfortunately, difficulties experienced in recruiting dentists to the area and increased running costs have prevented the practice from running sustainably.”

“We are sorry we have had to take this decision.”

A spokesperson for {my}dentist confirmed the closure, adding: “In common with many dental practices across the country, we have faced significant challenges recruiting clinicians.

“We’re in contact with patients to inform them of the changes and to reassure them that the NHS dental emergency triage service will continue to be offered until the practice closes.”

The nearest {my}dentist practices currently accepting new patients are at Houghton Road in Thurnscoe and George Street in Wombwell.
