Dearne Valley students focus on road safety

STUDENTS at Dearne Valley College have put the brakes on bad driving habits by attending an interactive workshop geared towards honing their road skills.

More than 200 young people took part in the two-hour Drive for Life initiative.

Run by the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, the scheme equips them with the information to make sensible and safe decisions when on the road.

Laura Shepherd, activities co-ordinator at Dearne Valley College said: “I am really pleased that so many of our students will have this opportunity to take part in Drive for Life.

“If the valuable events stop just one of our students being involved in a crash or causing a death on the road then it has been successful.”

John Richardson, Drive for Life presenter, said: “Young drivers are over represented in collisions on our roads and this initiative aims to raise their road safety awareness and help them to avoid becoming a statistic.

“We are keen to deliver Drive for Life to as many young drivers across South Yorkshire as possible. In addition to the work that we re already involved in with schools and colleges we would also like to run Drive for Life events for local businesses.”
