Dearne Valley marks Armed Forces Day

DEARNE Valley residents will be able to salute the armed forces when a special flag is raised outside Barnsley town hall next week.

The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Dorothy Higginbottom, along with other civic leaders and armed forces representatives will gather in front of the war memorial outside the town hall just before 10.30am on Monday to honour Armed Forces Day.

A short ceremony will end with the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag.

Cllr Higginbottom said: “Barnsley is extremely proud of its regimental links, both past and present.

“We will therefore be proudly flying the flag through to Saturday, June 30, which is Armed Forces Day, to recognise the significant and invaluable contribution made by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s armed forces.”
