Cycling club peddles way to hospital cash boost

MEMBERS of a cycling club pedalled their way to a big cash boost for a hospital’s cancer suite.

Tickhill Velo Cycling Club members took part in a 206-mile sponsored round trip from Tickhill to Scarborough in May and raised £5,293.

The cash will benefit Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s Chatsfield Suite which provides chemotherapy services for day case patients.

Rob Drohan, whose close friend was cared for at the suite, cycled the route alongside 12 local riders, mostly made up of members of Tickhill Velo Club.

He said: “The Scarborough cycle ride was the first our club has done and it was worth every mile.

“Doing something positive for our local hospital gives us such a sense of achievement and is a great way to show appreciation to the unit for the care they give their patients."

Chatsfield Suite ward manager Lara Cunnane-Reay said: “We want to say a big thank you to Rob and his friends at the Tickhill Velo Cycling Club for this very generous gift.

“We will use the money towards turning one of our side rooms into a more comfortable place for patients to relax in, away from the busy clinic area.

“This donation is very much appreciated and we are very grateful to everyone who supported Rob’s cycle ride. The money will be put to good use to benefit our patients.”
