Two held, two sought after "racially aggravated" cabbie attack

TWO men were arrested after a taxi driver suffered “significant” injuries in an early morning attack.

The assault, on Rowms Lane at Swinton shortly before 1am on Tuesday, is being treated as racially aggravated by police.

Police said four men assaulted the driver, a 38-year-old man, after he picked them up from a pub in Swinton Road.

A police spokesman said: “The victim suffered significant injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.

“The four men then fled the area but a 20-year-old man and a 51-year-old man were arrested shortly after. They currently remain in police custody.”

Insp Adrian Luscombe, said: “This was a nasty, unprovoked attack and we are treating it as racially aggravated.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw what happened to contact police.

“If you have any information, please call 101 quoting incident number 26 of June 14.”
