Two arrests after police officer attacked in Maltby

A POLICE officer was knocked unconscious and needed hospital treatment after being assaulted.

The officer was assaulted during an incident in Farquhar Road, Maltby, on Tuesday evening.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and threats to kill.

He remained in police custody on Wednesday morning.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "The officer regained consciousness and was taken to hospital. 

“He is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.”

A 24-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the incident and also remains in police custody.

The spokeswoman added: “We would like to thank local residents for their help last night and for their continued support.”
