Thief crosses railway tracks to steal handbag

AN AUDACIOUS thief risked his live when he ran across railway tracks to steal a woman’s handbag, then back again to make his escape.

Police are trying to trace the man who struck at Rotherham Central station, around 11.20pm on Thursday, February 4.

His victim was waiting on the opposite platform when he climbed down on the line, risking life and limb to commit the crime.

He discarded the bag as he fled, after taking cash from inside.

British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to about the theft.

PC Roy Percival said: “Not only was this a frightening experience for the victim, but the man endangered his life trespassing on the railway.

“The man in the image we are issuing today is someone who I think will have information about this theft. Please tell us who he is.”
