Teenager arrested over stabbing

A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed during an alleged dispute between a group of men.

Police were called to reports of a serious assault at a property on Spencer Street in Mexborough at around 7.30am on Friday.

A 49-year-old man was taken to hospital in serious condition after receiving a stab wound to his chest. A section of Spencer Street was cordoned off as detectives launched an investigation.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Monday and was released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are now appealing for information about the incident.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “It is believed a group of males were seen in the area of Spencer Street and Wath Street at the time and police would like to speak to them as they may hold vital information and be able to assist officers with their enquiries.”
