Swallownest club fire "accidental"

A FIRE service spokeswoman has said a blaze at Swallownest Miners’ Welfare yesterday was "accidental".

Five crews from Aston Parkway, Birley Moor, Parkway and Rotherham stations were called to the blaze at around 1pm.

No-one was reported injured in the incident, which firefighters left at around 4.15pm.

The blaze caused extensive damage to the concert room and smoke damage to the rest of the building.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.

Parkway station also attended a small refuse fire on a driving range at Brinsworth last night.

Staff arrived at Phoenix Golf Academy at 7.15pm, leaving at around 7.50pm.

The fire is thought to have been set deliberately.

Rotherham station attended a chimney fire on Green Lane, Wickersley last night.

Flames from a wood-burning stove had spread to floorboards, causing an accidental fire.

The crew arrived at around 10.50pm, leaving at around 12.30am.
