Stay safe at Hallowe'en - police

ENJOY yourself but stay safe—that is the message from the police and other agencies this Hallowe’en and bonfire night.

The last few years have not seen the usual rises in crime and anti-social behaviour in last October and early November.

But extra staff will be patrolling to deal with anyone planning to cause mischief or endanger others.

Supt Martin Hemingway, leading an Operation Impact campaign, said: “Anti-social behaviour can be a real problem throughout the year but at this time it also becomes a very important public safety issue.

“We always try to keep a really strong local focus when dealing with antisocial behaviour but there are key factors in Operation Impact that will be consistent across the county.

“There will be additional local staff patrolling the streets to prevent problems and plans are in place to deal with trouble spots quickly.

“The third crucial factor is our work with the fire service, local authorities and other agencies to provide positive activities for young people to keep them out of trouble."

He added: “Simple acts of mischief can have tragic consequences when fireworks and bonfires are involved and we urge all residents to help our countywide partnership by taking responsibility for what happens in their communities.

“Direct young people towards positive activities and report concerns to us. We are here to help and will deal with the things that matter to you.”
