Shop robbery thwarted by staff

The suspect, described as white and of a medium build, entered the Co-op on Worksop Road, Aston, at 10.30pm on Friday. 

He asked the woman behind the counter to open the till but left empty-handed when she refused. Police said he was possibly carrying a handgun. 

The offender wore a scarf covering his face, a hat and had distinctive Nike Air trainers with bright yellow or orange laces. 

A police spokesman urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, adding: “Any information you have could be vital to our investigation.”
