Police in Rawmarsh arson witness appeal

POLICE are urging a witness who helped them with an arson investigation to come forward again.

Officers were on patrol at 11.55pm on Saturday when the witness approached them to say he had just seen two men on bikes with a Molotov cocktail, heading towards Green Lane in Rawmarsh.

The officers went to Green Lane where they found a smashed bottle and scorch marks on the ground.

They believe the two men may be linked to a spate of arson attacks on vehicles in the area.

Sgt John Morris said: “We are treating the arsons as a priority and we are determined to find those responsible.

“If you provided officers with this information on Saturday, we urgently need to speak to you as your help could greatly assist the investigation and identify the individuals who are blighting our community.”

Police responded to an incident on George Place at 2.25pm on Tuesday, May 26, when a black Peugeot was set alight.

Three attacks followed on Brameld Road. A silver Vauxhall Zafira was set on fire at 2.10am on Monday, June 1.

A grey Nissan Quashqui was destroyed at 2.40am on Friday, June 5 and a white Peugeot van at 1.55am on Friday, June 12.

Officers urge anyone with information on the attacks — particularly the unidentified witness — to call 101 quoting incident 48 of June 12.
