Owners "distraught" after cat shot with pellet gun

A PET cat was left severely injured after being shot in the intestines with a pellet gun.

Six-year-old female tabby Sassie needed several days’ treatment including surgery.

Police believe the pointed pellet was from a hunting weapon used for killing vermin.

Investigating officer PC Sarah Garside said: “The owners are absolutely distraught by what has happened.

“This incident caused a great deal of distress to the family and unnecessary suffering to an animal.”

The incident happened between 6pm and 7pm on March 12 after Sassie was let outside at New Hill Road, Wath. Her owners found the cat bleeding from her side when she returned.

PC Garside said: “Any incident of this kind will not be tolerated. I would like to appeal to anyone who may know anything to contact police.

“If you see anyone deliberately hurting an animal or carrying a firearm in public, please call police so that we can investigate the matter thoroughly.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting incident 815 of March 18.
