Murder victim named by police

POLICE have named the man whose body was found in a house in Mexborough on Sunday.

Christopher Rooney (pictured) was formally identified this afternoon following a post mortem.

The 48-year-old’s body was found in a property on Auckland Road at around 1.45pm.

A 44-year-old man, who has not been named, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Officers cordoned off an area around the property as well as an alley way and nearby field as investigations continued.

Adwick Road shops were also closed for part of yesterday as forensic teams carried out a full search of the scene.
