More protection for cash-carrying Christmas

POLICE will increase their service to cash carrying vehicles over Christmas to deter criminals targeting vans.

Operation Monarch has proved successful in the past five years, with no such offences over the festive period in South Yorkshire.

Chief Insp Andy Male said: “We use a combination of policing tactics to deter and capture offenders, including the deployment of both covert and overt police resources, together with specialist firearms teams.

“We are able to keep track of security and cash in transit vans during what can be a vulnerable time from their collection to drop-off point.”
