His car was stolen after he was pulled from the vehicle and he was seriously assaulted by the robber who left him with fractured eye sockets.

Detectives are searching for the victim’s distinctive car – a 2008 Nurburgring Edition, white Vauxhall Astra VRX which has black chequers running along the bonnet and black alloy wheels.

CCTV images of a man police want to trace in connection with the incident have been released along with pictures of a black Vauxhall Astra believed to have been used in the robbery.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the black Vauxhall Astra’s registration plates were believed to be false and its original plates could have been switched to another vehicle.

If you have seen any of the cars or recognise the number plate call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 1002 of October 2.
