Man charged with GBH in connection with assault

A 33-year-old man has been charged in connection with an assault which left a 49-year-old with life-threatening injuries.

David Matthew Sindall, of Selbourne Street, Eastwood, was formally charged with burglary and grievous bodily harm in a hearing at Barnsley Magistrates Court on Saturday (27) following an incident on Skiers View Road, Hoyland, in the early hours of July 21.

A 49-year-old was rushed to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital after sustaining injuries which investigators believe were sustained during a confrontation.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers believe that a 49-year-old man confronted an unknown male on Skiers View Road in Hoyland.

“It is thought that the unknown male may have been attempting to break into the 49-year-old man’s car.”

The spokeswoman said that the victim of the attack was initially taken to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital with “life threatening” injuries, but his condition is now described as “critical but stable.”

Sindall was remanded in custody following Saturday’s hearing and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on August 8.
