Man charged over town centre attack on boy

A 32-year-old man has been charged over the attack on a boy in Effingham Street on Wednesday.

Mark Smith (32), of Fleming Way in Wickersley, is due before magistrates in Rotherham this morning over the assault.

Sixteen-year-old Aleem Ali was discharged from hospital yesterday after suffering a head injury in the incident.

Police said an increased presence would continue in the area this evening to provide reassurance to the public.

Insp Martyn Sheldon again appealed for witnesses of the afternoon attack to call 101, quoting incident 480 of September 9.
