Man charged after two armed robberies in Goldthorpe

A SUSPECTED armed robber has been charged following two attacks in the Goldthorpe area of Barnsley.

John Wright (20), of Barnsley Road, Goldthorpe, has been charged with two counts of robbery, two firearms offences, possession of a knife, affray and a breach of court bail.

It is reported that a man entered Khela Food & Wine on Doncaster Road and produced a handgun last Wednesday at around 6.20pm. The man demanded money before leaving the store.

On the next day at around 6am, police received further reports of a man entering Andy’s News on Barnsley Road with a handgun, who proceeded to demand money and cigarettes.

Wright was arrested later on last Thursday on suspicion of both robberies, and other offences in the Goldthorpe area which had occurred over the previous two weeks.

Wright has been remanded in custody and will appear before Sheffield Crown Court on January 13.
