Man appears in court over Sprotbrough murder

A MAN has appeared in court after being charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a woman in a Dearne Valley village.

Paul Cousans (52) appeared before magistrates in Sheffield on Monday and at the city’s crown court on Wednesday.

It follows the death of Kelli Bothwell (pictured) on Main Street, Sprotbrough, on August 5, when police were called at 8pm to reports of a dispute in a property.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Despite the best efforts of officers and ambulance crews, she sadly died a short time later."

A postmortem concluded that Kelli (53) died of a single stab wound.

Cousans denied murder when he appeared on Wednesday and was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear again for a hearing at the crown court on November 13 and stand trial on January 5 next year, with the case listed for five days.
