Man (30) arrested in Cornwall over "attempted murder" in South Yorkshire village

A GUNMAN who allegedly shot a man Goldthorpe was arrested hundreds of miles away in Cornwall on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police were called to a report of a “firearms discharge” just before midnight on Saturday on Washington Road in the Dearne Valley village.

A spokesperson said the suspect was believed to have entered an address and shot at a man in his 20s, who suffered minor injuries.

Police found and seized a gun at the scene.

They said a 30-year-old man had been arrested in Cornwall last night on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in custody today.

Searches have been carried out in the Thurnscoe and Bolton on Dearne areas as part of ongoing enquiries.

Detectives from Barnsley CID are now appealing for witnesses to come forward as they may have information to help the investigation.

Det Insp Mark Cockayne said: “I know that this incident will have no doubt caused some concern in the community but I want to reassure those residents that we’re working to find who was responsible.

“A team of detectives have been out gathering information and evidence all this week to get to the bottom of what may have happened.

“Last night’s arrest is a huge step in our investigation but we’re still keen to hear from anyone who may have any information as it may assist with our ongoing enquiries.
