Maltby assault officers renew safe appeal

DETECTIVES investigating a vicious attack on an elderly ex-soldier have renewed an appeal to trace a stolen safe.

Tommy Ward (80) suffered serious injuries in the attack at his Salisbury Road home in Maltby on October 1.

Det Insp Richard Partridge said: “We have issued several appeals for information already on this nasty attack and I’d like to thank the public and local community for their support so far.

“However, we are yet to locate the safe that we believe was taken from the man’s home when he was assaulted.

“I’d urge everyone living in the local area to cast their minds back — Salisbury Road is often quite busy, with buses and cars passing through — and consider whether there was anything out of the ordinary or suspicious.

“If you can recall any small detail, it might help us with our enquiries and I’d urge you to get in touch.”

The safe, which is light grey and has a key lock, is about 40cm x 30cm x 18cm and big enough for A4 documents. It weighs about 7kg.

Well-wishers have donated more than £6,000 to Mr Ward, who is still unconscious in hospital.
