Machete attack CCTV appeal

DETECTIVES investigating an alleged machete attack have issued this CCTV image of a man they wish to trace.

A 22-year-old man was reportedly chased by two others near the William Fry pub on Wellgate on August 23.

He and two friends are believed to have been threatened with a machete and police say the man pictured in the still could hold vital information.

Sgt Denis Plaistow said: “We are grateful for the public’s continued support as we carry out our enquiries and would like to reassure the community that we are taking this incredibly seriously.

“We know that images have previously been shared on social media but we must be sure that our investigation is not jeopardised by releasing certain information too soon, which is why we are only releasing further details now.

“We believe the man pictured could help us with our enquiries and we’d like to hear from him directly or from anyone who may know who he is.”

A 17-year-old boy remains on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of affray last month.

Sgt Plaistow added: “Our officers have carried out a comprehensive investigation so far and there is some suggestion that there was an altercation near to the pub prior to the reported affray, which may or may not be linked.

“I’d therefore like to hear from anyone who may have seen the earlier incident or witnessed suspicious activity in that part of town.”
