Knifemen hold up Co-op store

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information after an armed robbery at a convenience store.

Two men burst into the Co-op shop on Church Street at around 8pm on Sunday and one threatened a woman assistant behind the counter with a kitchen knife.

When the men demanded money, the woman shouted for a colleague at the rear of the store, who raised the alarm.

The robbers grabbed cash from the till and put it in a clear plastic bag before running from the shop and down an alleyway that leads to Waverley Avenue.

A police spokesman said that no-one was injured in the attack, but staff were badly shaken.

The man with the knife is described as white, aged in his early twenties, around 5ft 8in tall and of slim build. He was dressed in dark clothing and spoke with a local accent.

His accomplice was also wearing dark clothing. He is said to be slightly shorter at around 5ft 7in tall and also aged in his early twenties. His accent was not local, but he spoke with a deep voice.
