Increased police presence after shots fired at vehicles

AN INCREASED police presence was in force last night after “worrying” reports of shots being fired at vehicles in “broad daylight”.

Police said two suspects wearing dark clothing and riding an electric bicycle were believed to have fired shots towards multiple vehicles parked on St James’ Gardens, Balby, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Nobody is thought to have been injured during the incident but vehicles were damaged, a spokesperson said, adding: "The suspects are reported to have rode away from the scene after firing at the vehicles.

"A cordon was placed on the street last night and there was an increased police presence in the community to allow for detailed forensic examination of the scene and other enquiries to take place."

Det Chf Insp Tom Bright from Doncaster said: “We absolutely appreciate that news of this incident will cause concern among the Balby community, in particular the residents of this and the surrounding streets.

“This was a worrying incident that happened in broad daylight on a residential street and it was only by luck that nobody was injured as a result of the suspects’ actions.

“It’s imperative that anyone with information about this incident comes forward, so we can identify those responsible.
