Huge £250k cannabis factory raided by police

POLICE uncovered £250,000 worth of cannabis at a “sophisticated” factory which had CCTV covering the premises.

South Yorkshire Police received numerous reports and anonymous information about the farm - set up in an industrial unit in Parkgate.

A drugs warrant was executed at Red Dragon Storage in Mangham Way on Wednesday and Thursday by officers from Rotherham North local policing team.

A spokesman from the team said: “Staff attended the location and on forcing entry to a number of units, we were greeted to the sight of a sophisticated cannabis factory.

“The location was well secured and had numerous CCTV cameras monitoring the unit.

“The electric supply company arrived and made sure it was safe to enter.”

Officers found 400 cannabis plants in various stages of growth from mature plants to newly planted seedlings, with an estimated street value of £250,000.

All the plants were seized and some will be used as evidence, the rest will be destroyed along with the equipment.

The spokesman added: “This finding has stopped a large amount of illegal drugs, reaching the streets.”

No arrests have been made and and enquiries are ongoing.
