House fire under investigation

FOUR fire crews tackled an afternoon house fire on a terraced street that is now under investigation.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) were called to the incident on Fox Street in Kimberworth at 2.45pm yesterday (12).

A SYFR spokeswoman said nobody was inside the two storey property at the time of the blaze, but the adjoining property suffered smoke damage.

Crews from Rotherham, Darnall, Tankersley and Mansfield Road came away from the scene at 5.15pm.

The cause of the blaze is now being investigated.

Firefighters were kept busy through the night and into Friday morning.

A shopping trolley was found alight on Fenton Road, Kimberworth Park at 8.10pm and a wheelie bin had also been deliberately set on fire on Warren Road, Wickersley at 8.20pm.

On Wortley Road, Masbrough, a crew from Rotherham station put out two mattresses that had been set alight at 10.20pm.
