Gun found in abandoned car

POLICE discovered a gun in a car abandoned by two men in Mexborough.

Officers had been following a black Seat Ibiza around the town at 10.40pm on Sunday.

The vehicle travelled along West Street, Oliver Street and Schofield Street and stopped on Catherine Street, where two men were seen fleeing the scene.

A police spokeswoman said: “An extensive search of the area was carried out but the men remain outstanding. Both the vehicle and its contents are now being forensically tested.

“Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw an 04-plate black Seat Ibiza being driven in the Swinton or Mexborough area.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident 1219 of Sunday, March 20.
