Fire at gun victim's home 'suspicious'

POLICE have confirmed that a fire in a garage behind the home of gun victim Tyrone Woodhead was suspicious.

Emergency services were called to a blaze behind the house on Doncaster Road in Wath at 4.35am yesterday where they found the garage “well ablaze”.

The fire broke out just days after Mr Woodhead (42) was shot once in his upper body after answering a knock at the door.

Detectives have now confirmed that the fire is being treated as suspicious although they are not linking it to the shooting.

Today, Mr Woodhead remains in hospital where his condition is described as “life-threatening but stable”.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the “isolated targeted” but the gunman is still on the run.

Police are appealing for people who were in the Doncaster Road area between 8.15pm and 9pm on Thursday to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1146 of September, 20 if they have seen anything suspicious. Alternatively witnesses can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
