A FAMILY escaped unharmed after their smoke alarm alerted them that their home was on fire.

Three crews of firefighters from Rotherham and Darnall stations were called out at 10.30am on Saturday.

The parents and their grown-up son and daughter managed to exit the Cambridge Crescent house on East Dene.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “The fire started in the daughter’s bedroom and was found to have been caused by an electrical fault.”

Firefighters, including the fire emergency support, left the scene at about 1.20pm. The blaze was recorded as accidental.

No-one was injured and the spokeswoman added that the incident underlined the importance of having a working smoke alarm.
