British Transport Police winning battle against railway crime

RAILWAY crime is down for the fifth year running, according to the British Transport Police.

Figures show a 12 per cent reduction in railway crimes in the north east area of England, which includes South Yorkshire.

The figures show;

A 30% reduction in sex offences.

A 19% fall in robberies.

A 32% fall in the theft of railway property.

Chief Supt Terry Nicholson said: “This sustained downward trend in crime is a tribute to the dedication of officers and staff, and also down to the excellent partnerships we have with rail operators, who continue to invest in the security of their customers and staff.”
