Babies’ graves vandalism slammed as ‘disgusting’

THE company responsible for a cemetery which was trashed by vandals who targeted babies’ graves has branded the crimes as disgusting.

As reported by the Advertiser, Greasbrough Cemetery, on Town Lane, was targeted by a trail of vandalism earlier this month.

Graves damaged included those of Freddie Hutchings, who died after being born prematurely in 2017, and Chester William Best, who died suddenly in 2019 at just 29 days old.

Mums Laura Rose and Shannon Wildgoose said they were heartbroken and angry to be victims of a “sickening crime”.

Dignity Plc, which is in charge of maintaining the graveyard, condemned the spate of vandalism and said they were working with the police on the incident to ensure families have a place that is safe for their loved ones to rest in peace.

A spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the families who have been affected by this vandalism.

“We have contacted the police and reported the incident, and we will work with the police on their investigation into what has happened.

“We urge anyone with information to make contact with the police as soon as possible to help protect these families from such awful behaviour.

“Our team works hard to ensure the cemetery is a peaceful and tranquil space for families to reflect and remember their loved ones, and the families we serve are our priority.

“We will continue to work with the authorities to ensure that our cemeteries are a safe space.”
