Armed cops in stun grenade raid

ARMED police flushed out a suspected gunman with stun grenades in a late night raid at Wath.

Officers carrying submachine guns and shields threw flashbangs into a garage on Starlings Close, where the suspect was hiding.

They were called to the scene at around 9.35pm on Wednesday, March 2.

A police spokeswoman said today: “Officers were called following concerns for the safety of a man who was inside an outbuilding close to the property.

“It was reported that the man was in possession of a firearm and, for his own safety and the safety of local residents, armed officers were called to the scene.

“The man was found not to be armed and was detained under the Mental Health Act following the incident.”
