Appeal for witnesses to Rotherham stabbing

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Rotherham in the early hours of last Saturday.

The 23-year-old man was walking along Wortley Road, close to St Bede's Catholic Primary School, when he was approached by two men, described as being in their early 20s.

A police spokeswoman said: “One of the men verbally abused him before the second struck him twice in the chest.

“They then walked off in the direction of Rotherham town centre.

“The victim then realised that he had been stabbed close to his armpit and had suffered a puncture wound requiring stitches.”

The man who is believed to have stabbed the victim is described as being around 6ft 1ins or 6ft 2ins tall and of a skinny build. 

He had dark brown or black hair, a pointed face and a prominent nose and chin. He was wearing a black North Face waterproof zip-up top and dark jogging trousers.

The second man, who was verbally abusive, is described as around 5ft 10ins tall and skinny. 

He had dark brown or black hair which was cut short on the sides and a round face with defined cheekbones. 

He was wearing a black hooded top, grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 187 of November 9.
