33 years in prison for Rotherham betting shop robbers

AN ARMED gang has been jailed for 33 years after committing a spree of betting shop robberies.

David Nuttall (25) of Crumwell Road, Kimberworth, Ben Porter (20) of Friers Croft, Wentworth and Brett Haslam (25) of Church Street, Wales, were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday for raids involving a blank-firing pistol and a sawn-off shotgun.

The crimes were committed during one week in April, using a vehicle stolen from an address in North Anston.

The trio struck first at the Mark Jarvis betting shop in Thurcroft, threatening staff with the shotgun and stealing £2,000.

They then raided the Coral bookmakers’ on Scrooby Street, Greasbrough and Betfred on Muglet Lane, Maltby.

In court Haslam admitted to four robberies and three firearms offences, for which he received 15 years’ imprisonment.

Porter admitted to three robberies, two firearms offences and possessing shotgun ammunition —\!q he was jailed for 11-and-a-half years.

Nuttall was jailed for six-and-a-half years after admitting to two robberies.

Det Sgt Andy Marsh said: “This team caused a good deal of concern among staff in bookmakers’ across the county.

“The sentences reflect the widespread effect of their actions and the outcome is a pleasing conclusion for the victims and investigating officers alike.”
