Couple sue over dead dogs on beach and 'filthy' hotel

A ROTHERHAM couple are suing over a holiday ordeal which left them both ill and disgusted.

Janet Streets and her husband David, of Sough Hall Crescent, Thorpe Hesley, traveled to the “luxury” Sol Y Mar Sea Star hotel in the Eygptian resort of Taba to celebrate David’s 50th birthday.

But they say their two-week holiday was ruined.

Among the problems they say they suffered were:

  • Dead dogs scattered across the beach.
  • Uncooked food.
  • Filthy hotel rooms.
  • Food and drink supplies curtailed and travel restricted by the effects of the Eygptian mass demoracy movement.

They say the both suffered stomach upsets, with Janet being hospitalised for five days when she came back with gastric problems.

Now they are taking action against tour giant TUI UK with the aid of solicitors Irwin Mitchell.

“As a holiday experience it was shocking and the hygiene standards were horrific,” said Janet.

“I ended up in hospital for five days when we got back which was very scary.

“I felt dreadful and even now I’ve not fully recovered. We wish we hadn’t gone at all—it’s done far more harm than good.”

A spokeswoman for TUI UK, which includes Thomson, said:

“Thomson was concerned to hear that Mr and Mrs Streets fell ill while on holiday at the Sol Y Mar Sea Star in Taba.

“The health and safety of our customers is our primary concern and we audit all the hotels to which we operate to ensure the strictest health, hygiene and comfort levels are maintained.”

The company couldn’t comment on the case for fear of predjudicing the outcome of legal proceedings, but the spokeswoman added: ““We are disappointed that the no-win, no-fee solicitors seem determined to play this out in the press, which we do not believe is in their clients’—our customers’—best interests.”
