NOSTALGIC Rotherham folk are being asked to share their photographs and memories of the Queen’s 1953 Coronation, in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee.

The project by Rotherham Borough Council will see the creation of a visual archive of the borough’s celebrations to which it is hoped people around the borough will contribute.

Residents can bring their own photographs from the original Rotherham coronation celebrations and later Jubilee events to Rotherham’s outdoor street market on Tuesday, April 3, where a special market stall will be set up in All Saints’ Square from 9.30am to 3pm.

The archive will be displayed in the Rotherham Visitor Centre, All Saints’ Square, in the lead-up to Rotherham’s Right Royal Street Party Diamond Jubilee celebration on Saturday, June 2, which is being held from 10am to 2pm.

The entire area is set to be transformed into a 1950s-style street party, complete with a display of vehicles from the era, street art, travelling show and vintage market.

The day will feature songs, dance, a Victorian variety entertainment show, and traditional tea dancing, among plenty of other features.

The council said that it was unable to return photographs and asked people wanting to take part to provide copies or CDs with pictures on.

Residents can also upload their photos electronically, directly onto the gallery at www.rotherham.gov.uk/jubilee.
