Conservation area status for Ulley village

A VILLAGE which hit the headlines when its overflowing reservoir threatened to flood large areas of Rotherham has been declared a conservation area.

Ulley, which lies in rolling farmland about six miles from Rotherham town centre, has become the 28th conservation area in the borough.

This means that there will be tighter planning controls on any development in the village in an effort to retain its character.

It comes almost six years after Ulley Reservoir was at the centre of a huge flooding crisis as fire crews battled to stop its damaged dam from collapsing — an emergency which prompted a multi-million pound overall.
