Conisbrough boy crushed by runaway truck

A BOY was seriously hurt after he was crushed against a wall by a runaway lorry in Conisbrough.

Police were called out on Monday after an Iveco flatbed lorry that was parked on Elm Green Lane, rolled down the road to the junction with Station Road pinning an eight-year-old boy against the wall.

An air ambulance had to be flown in after the incident which happened at around 6.30pm.

The boy has fractured his pelvis and has been detained in the Sheffield Chidren’s hospital.

He is described as being in a stable condition.

The lorry has been taken for a mechanical examination to see if there was a fault with the brake.

Pc Steven Zielinski from the Road Policing Group said: "This was an unfortunate accident that resulted in an injury to a young boy.

“We are looking into whether there was a mechanical fault with the brake on the lorry.

“The driver of the lorry is extremely upset by the events and is co-operating with the police to try and establish the cause of the accident."
