Company director killed in girder tragedy
THE DIRECTOR of a Rotherham steel firm has died after being crushed under a girder as it was unloaded from a truck in Sheffield city centre
Anthony Baines (50), a director of Rotherham-based Birkhull Engineering, was standing next to the truck in Balm Green, next to the City Hall, when the one tonne beam fell and killed him instantly.

Hide AdPassers-by and construction workers at the nearby Fountain Precinct heard a loud bang at 9.45am yesterday and ran to help.
Paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes but were unable to save Mr Baines.
A white sheet was placed over the body while police crime scene officers taped off the area and launched an investigation.

Hide AdMr Baines, who was married and lived in Rotherham, is believed to have been one of three Birkhull workers delivering three girders from Taylors Close, Parkgate, Rotherham to Fountain Precinct for use in refurbishment works.
