Christmas parcels for heroes

A CHRISTMAS appeal to send parcels to servicemen and women received a boost from shoppers.

Morrisons at Parkgate Shopping hosted a two-day event during which people donated items to the Support Our Soldiers Christmas parcel appeal.

Rotherham area co-ordinator Tracy Mounsey said: “We met some extremely generous and supportive shoppers.

“We spoke to ex-servicemen and woman and passed on SOS information to families of serving personnel.

“We raised a fantastic £949.54 from donations and merchandise sales, plus a shopping trolley full of donated goodies for the Christmas care parcels.

“Huge thanks go to Morrisons events co-ordinator Julie Markham and everyone involved.”

This month Rotherham SOS plans to post more than 200 Christmas parcels to Afghanistan.

Tracy added: “I already have the names of all the soldiers who have registered to receive a parcel from our charity.

“The charity as a whole will be posting 12,000 parcel this Christmas.

“Many soldiers who are away from their loved ones this year will know that we are thinking of them during the Christmas period.”
