CCTV cuts bin lorry compensation claims

The mobile recording system has saved money and has increased security and safety.

Now, after a successful three-month trial, the council is to install more of the cameras in its waste collection fleet.

Transport manager Craig Simpson said a new solution had been needed in the face of spiralling third-party claims and issues with crew safety.

He said: “It’s been a huge benefit to the council. As well as increasing vehicle safety, it has dramatically reduced claims made against us.

“Previously, the whole investigation process was impossible to conduct. But now we can monitor it ourselves.

“It has saved money for numerous reasons, which is fantastic in the current climate.”
