Today a spokesman for South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the body was that of Mr Leigh Stainforth, adding: “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”

Leigh was last seen in the early hours of May 8 during a night out with friends in Mexborough.

He was seen to leave the Boy and Barrel on High Street at 1.50am and CCTV footage showed him walking along High Street and then on to Bank Street.

Leigh then continued walking along Bank Street alone in the direction of Doncaster Road towards his home but he never arrived.
